International Undergraduate & Graduate Commitment Scholarship at Western Illinois University in the USA

The Western Illinois University introduced the awards for applicants entering the University for any undergraduate or graduate courses. The funds contributed by the department will be sufficient for students to cover their purposes and can also be renewed for up to three to four years.

Eligibility Criteria

The aspirants must meet up with the given eligibility criteria to be applicable for the scholarship:

For Undergraduate Commitment Scholarship

  • The candidate must be an international student.
  • The funds are renewable for up to three years (six semesters) as an undergraduate (8 semesters total) or until the recipients receives a degree, whichever comes first
  • Must have 3.0 cumulative GPA maintained for renewal
  • 30 SH must be completed in the prior awarded year to earn renewal
  • Applicants must have accumulated less than 24 college credits
  • A continuous full-time enrollment required
  • 50% will be awarded fall semester, and 50% will be awarded spring semester. Not available to students on a government or NGO sponsorship program except with a bilateral agreement
  • Recipients may enrol in summer school at in-state rates
  • Candidates enrolled in full-time online studies are eligible
  • The scholarship only applied to WIU tuition. No cash refund is available

For Graduate Commitment Scholarship

  • Must be a newly admitted graduate, a non-sponsored international student enrolling at thhhe university for the first time.
  • Must have minimumof 3.00 GPA
  • Renewable for a second year with a 3.0 GPA maintained
  • Continuous full-time enrollment required (Prorated to $500 per 3 SH if an immigration exemption has been awarded for the final semester)
  • 50% will be awarded fall semester, and 50% will be awarded spring semester
  • Students may enrol in summer school at in-state rates
  • Candidates enrolled in full-time online studies are eligible
  • Applicants receiving a graduate assistantship are not qualified for this award
  • The scholarship only applied to WIU tuition. No cash refund is available.

How to Apply for the Scholarship

To apply for the scholarships, applicants are needed to follow these steps:

Step 1: Apply for Admission

To apply for the funds, an Application for Assistantship available from the School of Graduate Studies or at www.wiu.edu/grad must be submitted along with three letters of recommendation (some programs require specialized recommendation letters) and a statement of personal goals. The application, notes, and information must be submitted to the School of Graduate Studies before an assistantship contract may be written.

Entry Requirements

  • Fellows must meet the general country or study curriculum entry requirement.
  • Fellows must demonstrate English language skills and meet the general admission criteria following the country/curriculum you studied.
  • Must hold a degree comparable to a recognized U.S. bachelor’s degree.
  • Must have a combined GPA of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale for all college courses attempted, or have a 3.0 or higher GPA for the last two years of undergraduate work attempted.
  •  All marks and scores will be converted to a 4.0 grading scale.

Visa Requirements

If offered admission at Western Illinois University, international applicants will need to obtain an F-1 or J-1 visa to study in the US. You must be enrolled on your courses by the beginning of each semester. The Immigration Specialist is required to report non-enrollment to the (DHS) Department of Homeland Security within 30 days of the end of the registration period. Any student who is not enrolled will be reported and will be considered out of status with immigration.
