      1. Outline of CAYSS

The Chung-Ang University Young Scientist Scholarship (CAYSS) Program is a newly launched graduate program in the Graduate School of Chung-Ang University. CAYSS, opened in Fall 2010, aims to pick out and recruit overseas students from prominent institutions and universities all over the world, that are majoring in Engineering and Science The students must be highly recommended by one of the Chung-Ang University’s faculty members. The recipients of this scholarship will enjoy entrance fee and full tuition fee waivers for four semesters.

Four terms tuition fee waivers (including enrollment fee) and additional stipend from their professors (minimum 500,000KRW per month).

  1. Conditions for CAYSS recipients
    1. Admissions Requirement: International students majoring in natural Science, Engineering, Pharmacy, and Medicine, who obtained the consent and recommendation from one of the Chung-Ang University full time faculty members. Other conditions are the same with the admission guide of other international students.
    2. Conditions of Benefit: Students have to maintain GPAs 3.5 or above. Students must get the approval signature of their academic advisor, every single semester, to receive tuition fee waiver scholarship and monthly stipend in their following semester.
        1. Duration: Minimum of four semesters for Master’s or Doctoral courses; eight semesters for Master and Ph.D. joint program.
        2. Research Registration: Please note that there is partial tuition fee payment, 10% of full tuition fees, for at least two semesters when doctoral course students, if the student cannot graduate, even though the student has finished his or her course work. This situation only applies to the doctoral degree seeking students, not to the Master’s degree students and cannot be waived even though you are CAYSS recipients. Regardless of course, if a student requests a certificate of enrolment after finishing course work, the student must go through the research registration process and pay the respective fees.
        3. Requirements for Graduation
        1. Master: An article must be submitted to JCR by him/herself or collaboration with the student’s academic advisor before the graduation, and must be published within 1year of graduation(including confirmation of publication).This must be a separate article from a presentation of a thesis for graduation.
        2. Doctor : An article must be published to JCR by him/herself as a first or a corresponding author(including confirmation of publication). This must be a separate article from a presentation of a thesis for graduation.
        3. Masters & Ph.D. joint program: An article must be published to JCR by him/herself as a first or a corresponding author(including confirmation of publication).           1. Exemption from the Master’s Degree Thesis Submitting Qualification Proficiency Test (Language & Major)
          2. Exemption from the Master’s degree thesis
          3. Scholarship upon entering the doctoral degree program (full scholarship available only for the 1st semester)
          4. After completing more than 4 semesters in the program with more than 30 credits, it is recognized as the Master degree program
      1. Eligibility

This scholarship is applied to a portion of natural Science, Medicine, Engineering and Pharmacy majoring students. Admission to the graduate school program is open to all qualified international applicants who hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited undergraduate institution(to be elligable for Master’s program) or who hold a bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree from an accredited undergraduate and graduate institution(to be elligable for Doctoral program).

        1. International Applicants

1) Foreign national whose parents must have foreign citizenship

        2) Irrespective of nationality, applicant has completed or is scheduled to complete all education courses, equivalent to primary, secondary and university education in a foreign country for more than 16 years.

      1. How to Apply

Step1:

      Find faculty members in the field of your interest as candidates for your supervisor. Applications will not be accepted without the consent of at least one faculty member as a prospective supervisor. The prospective supervisors should be a professor, associate professor, assistant professor or full time lecturer of the Graduate School at Chung-Ang University.
      Step2:
      Contact the faculty members directly via email to obtain consent of acceptance. To contact the faculty members, it is strongly advisable to:
      • gather information about the faculty members and their field of research in advance by looking at their publications, research papers, and personal websites.
      • include “CAYSS” in the subject line of the email.
      • provide as much of your academic background and application information as possible.
      • provide the names of other faculty members if contacting more than one at the same time.
      • provide the name of your current or latest supervisor as a reference.
      Step3:
      Prepare the required documents for application if the professor you have contacted is willing to recommend you as a CAYSS applicant. The professor must send us notice on CAYSS acceptance directly to

      ) and do NOT need to enclose the statement of financial resources. Apply on-line. If it is not the general application period, please use the CAYSS application form provided on top of this page. Exclusive Waivers of application fee of $100 are applied to the CAYSS applicants.

Step4:

      Send the application documents to the Office of International Affairs(OIA), Chung-Ang University after applying on-line during general application periods. All the application documents, including application form, should be enclosed together, sent via airmail, and received by the OIA of Chung-Ang University by the same deadline as general admissions.

      Step5:
    The Committee for CAYSS will carry out preliminary selection based on scholastic aptitude according to documents submitted and contact the applicants for further evaluation in May or in November depending on intended entrance term.

  2. original copy of an official undergraduate degree certificate Or a proof of expected graduation
  3. original copy of official transcript (in English) with full marks of GPA

  5. One copy of each published article or manuscript (including thesis, optional)
  6. A copy of applicant’s passport, if you don’t have passport, please provide us some official document that we can refer to your nationality, full name and date of birth.
  7. 7. Letter of Consent for school verification (see the attached form, please fill out only in the star marked blanks, the other blanks are for school use)

*8. A copy of parents’ ID card (head and tail) which is saying their nationality
*9. Two letters of recommendation from each of two person(see the attached form, one can use one’s own form of this)- Only for doctoral program applicants
*No. 8 and 9 can be replaced with birth certificate.

Application Fee
    • A fee of $100 (100,000 Korean won)
      (* The fee for the Department of Music, Korean Music, Application is 130,000 Korean won or US $130)
    • Application Fee and submitted documents will not be returned to applicants.

※ Application fees(after deduction of remittance charge) will be reimbursed to the applicants who’ve applied to Interdisciplinary departments and have returned because the whole admission process is canceled because of lack of applicants.
 Note)

    1. In case of reimbursement in foreign currency(ex. US$), please be informed that the exchange rate as of reimbursement be applied.
    2. Any other charge except a remittance charge should be on the applicants when reimbursement.
