Who we are
The Biochemistry Department is a large research and teaching department housed in a well-equipped building. It is part of the School of Medical Sciences, which includes the adjacent Microbiology and Immunology Department. It is located in Dunedin, a culturally vibrant and diverse university city.
The Role
A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in Dr Chris Brown’s research group to work on a Marsden funded project entitled ‘New ways of terminating bacterial gene expression’. The project is a fundamental science project aimed at identifying new antibiotic targets.
Your Skills and Experience
• PhD degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or related fields
• Experience with Microbiology techniques, making gene knockouts, constructing and using vector systems for quantitative measurement of gene expression.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and a minimum of three publications in peer reviewed journal articles.
• Bioinformatic or genomic skills and experience with handling bacterial pathogens at PC2 level would be an advantage.
