Postdoc, Visual Processing Neurology Group, ENI Göttingen

The European Neuroscience Institute Göttingen is seeking
a PostDoc Visual Processing Group
fixed term contract, full-time | salary according to TV-L
ENI-G is engaged in experimental molecular and cellular research on the central and peripheral nervous systems.
The lab of Dr. Marion Silies is interested in understanding the cellular basis of  neural computation in the brain. Specifically, we are investigating motion  detection circuits using the genetic model organsim Drosophila. Our goal is to  understand the circuit architecture of behaviorally critical neural networks and  identify the molecular mechanism that underly specific neural computations. Advanced genetic techniques will be combined with in vivo 2 photon calcium  imaging, molecular and cell biological techniques and behavioral analysis to  obtain an integrated understanding of circuit function.
The successful candidate will be an active member of a vibrant international team. The project will range vom using molecular techniques to physiological analysis of identified circuit elements to behavioral experiments. Enthusiasm, independence, reliability and organizational skills are essential. Experience in Drosophila genetics, molecular biology, 2 photon imaging and/or basic programming skills (Matlab) are advantageous, but not strictly required.
The key selection criteria will be the candidate’s previous experience and the motivation to provide enduring research efforts with a high level of intellectual creativity, persistence and dedication. Excellent communication in English, teamwork, scientific and personal ethics and interpersonal skills are expected. The applicant should hold a PhD degree in Neuroscience, Biology, Computational Neuroscience or a related field. While funding is available, the applicant is encouraged to also seek a postdoctoral fellowship with the assistance of the PI.
Please forward your application, containing a motivation letter, CV and contacts of two referees to [email protected]
We are going to accept applications until 15.12.2015, or until a suitable candidate is hired.
