Zienkiewicz PhD Scholarships At Swansea University. UK

The College of Engineering at Swansea University is delighted to introduce the second round of the prestigious Zienkiewicz Scholarships. These scholarships are named to honor Professor O.C. Zienkiewicz (1921-2009) who was a pioneer in the area of finite element method.  Professor Zienkiewicz’s work originated at Swansea University, revolutionised the  engineering industry, and is now widely used across the aerospace, chemical, civil, medical, material and manufacturing industries.

5-8 scholarships are expected to be awarded for full PhD study in Engineering or Sport and Exercise Science at Swansea University’s brand new Bay Campus.

The College of Engineering is recognised internationally for cutting-edge research. 94% of research produced by academic staff is of world-leading or internationally excellent quality. We are a top 10 ranked UK College of Engineering with our Research Environment in the UK ranked second behind Cambridge University. The impact of our Engineering research is ranked 10th in the UK. The Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014 ranks Sports and Exercise Science at Swansea as 5th in the UK for its Research Impact and 15th in the UK for the overall quality of its research.

These scholarships are designed to fund the next generation of research leaders. The intention is for PhD studies to lead to potential RCUK fellowship applications. Zienkiewicz scholars will be expected to produce REF 2020 quality publications during their PhD.

Eligibility

These scholarships are open to students from the UK, EU and overseas.

Applications for Zienkiewicz scholarships are extremely competitive. Please only apply if you hold, or expect to hold, a UK 1st class honours degree (or international equivalent) in engineering, maths, science, or sports and exercise science.

In addition to excellent academic results, applicants must be highly motivated individuals with excellent communication skills and show clear potential as future research leaders.

Funding

The scholarship fund will be allocated to a range of students with variable scholarships. Some will be to pay tuition fees only, whereas in other areas full fees and a living cost stipend will be awarded.

Once you have done this, please email the academic who you believe to be most suited to you with an expression of interest. You should do this by attaching your CV and academic transcript. You may also choose to submit a project proposal for their consideration.
Applications to individual academics will then be considered as a group by the College Research Committee and successful candidates will be invited to submit a formal application to the University.
The deadline for applications is Monday 1st February 2016. By this date you must have submitted your CV and transcripts to the academic you wish to undertake a PhD with and agreed a potential project proposal with them.
