We are currently seeking postdoctoral research fellows who are enthusiastic and highly motivated to work in the laboratory of Dr. Satoshi Kojima at the Korea Brain Research Institute. Research area in the laboratory is cognitive and behavioral neuroscience. We are particularly focusing on the question of how animals including humans learn to produce their complex vocalizations from other individuals during a critical period of development, and more broadly, how experience during early life shapes the functioning of the nervous system and individuals’ perception and behavior. To address these questions we mainly study songbirds, a great model system for studying the neural substrates of vocal learning, with a long-term goal of contributing to our understanding of speech and developmental learning mechanisms in humans that benefits our society. The lab utilizes variety of techniques, including electrophysiology, behavioral manipulations, pharmacology, and optogenetics in songbirds, as well as psychophysics and behavioral testing in humans.
Candidates must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree at the time of employment in related research areas, such as neuroscience, psychology, animal behavior, neuroengineering etc. Research experience in electrophysiology, behavior analysis, optogenetics, or computer programming will be an advantage but not necessarily required. If you are interested, please send application materials including (1) a curriculum vitae, (2) a list of 2-3 references and (3) a concise statement of research interests in English by email to Dr. Satoshi Kojima at [email protected]. Applications will be reviewed starting January 20th, 2017, and accepted until the position is filled.
