We are seeking a highly ambitious and talented PhD student to work on interdisciplinary projects within engineering and design of Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells for biotechnological applications. The PhD student will work close together with other researchers in the CHO Cell Line Engineering and Design section at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (DTU Biosustain).
Job description
The PhD student will join a larger research project focusing on optimizing host cells for the production of therapeutic proteins. The PhD student will identify target genes, design genetic engineering strategies, screen and characterize cell lines. The work will include application of CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing technologies and systems biology techniques in addition to development of high through-put assays. The candidate will work closely with other research groups and core facilities that aim at constructing superior cell factories and develop technologies that shorten the design cycle in cell line engineering.
Qualifications
Mandatory requirements:
- Master degree in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology or bioengineering
- Laboratory experience with molecular and cell biology of eukaryotic cells
- Strong work ethic and motivation to succeed within a competitive research field
- Good communication skills
Preference given to a candidate with experience in:
- Mammalian cell handling
- Molecular biology techniques
- Microscopy and cell sorting
- Biotechnology and cell biology
