A PhD or Postdoc position is immediately available at the Department Biology II of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) München. The research project aims to uncover the contribution of vestibular input to the hippocampal population code for space and its relation to the influence of optical flow, proprioceptive feedback and efference copies. To this end, we use both a virtual reality system for body fixed rodents as well as a novel virtual reality system for freely moving rodents. We use state of the art multichannel electrophysiology techniques to sample the activity of large population of neurons in the rodent hippocampus and connected regions. The project is a collaborative project between the groups of Anton Sirota (http://www.sirotalab.bio.lmu.de/), Christian Leibold and Kay Thurley (http://www.neuro.bio.lmu.de/research_groups/res-leibold_ch/index.html).
A PhD candidate should have an excellent M.Sc. degree, or equivalent (or be currently working towards one) in systems/computational neuroscience. Previous experience in electrophysiology applied to neuroscience (in particular electrophysiology in behaving rodents) is welcome, although candidates with other backgrounds but with equal motivation are encouraged to apply.
We also invite applications from interested Postdoc candidates, who should own a PhD in neuroscience and have strong experience with electrophysiology in behaving rodents and good programming skills in Python and/or C/C++. Good verbal and written communication skills in English are highly desirable.
The successful candidate will be paid according to German salary TVL-13. The PhD position would be available for 36 months; the Postdoc position for 24 months.
The position is available immediately and candidates will be expected to be able to start the project in the fall of 2015. The candidate selection will be open until the position is fulfilled.
