DAAD Scholarship Checklist:
1. DAAD Application Form
2. Bachelor and Master degrees and Transcripts (Both needs to be attested by HEC and MoFA)
3. High School Certificate (Needs to be attested by Boards, IIBC and Foreign office)
4. Motivation Letter (Must be focused on your area of speciality and your study objectives)
5. A detail CV
6. Work Experience at least two years (You must provide a certificate of service for this)
7. Recommendation Letters (Two Academics & One Professional)
8. IELTS/TOEFL Score
How to approach the procedure:
I would divide the process into three:
First: Prepare the documents- This stage includes the preparation of all educational and non-educational documents and getting them attested by the Higher Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs- Once you are done with all your educational package, get your hand on getting a work certificate from your employer (although the minimum requirement for the application is two years, the more the better). You may even ask your employer or former-employer to write a good recommendation letter for you. Preparing a professional CV in a tabular format shall not come inferior to you as it will have the same weight in scoring as your other documentations. Be short and concise and DO mention any academic/professional achievements in your CV. Next come the recommendation letters from your academic referees. Do Not procrastinate this as your academic referees may not have the time to write a good letter for you if you give them a short time span. At the same time, you should prepare yourself for a TOEFL/IELTS and if you already have one, then phew for you! Last BUT not Least, writing a coherent and persuasive motivation statement is your strong tool to sell yourself to the Selection Committee. Write it concise and be clear! Don’t be too dramatic in your future goals. Be realistic and give realistic and sensible examples.

Second: Creating a DAAD Account and Finding Universities:
First things first- Go to this portal and create an account for yourself. It’s very easy and straightforward. Here is the link:

Once you created an account, the next step is to select three universities of your choice. As a requirement for DAAD Scholarship, you need to have a proof of contact with these universities. Now you may wonder what this means. You should be careful that NO University will give you admission one year ahead so what you really need at this stage is a letter of confirmation for your eligibility in the admission process. Go through the link below and select your universities of choice. You will also find their contact details in the page. Email them and tell them you are applying for DAAD Scholarship and that you need a confirmation upon your eligibility for admission. The confirmation could be through either an email-reply or a letter.
Third: At this stage, you should have all the necessary documents at your hand with three selected universities and a DAAD Account. What you need to do is log into your DAAD Account/ Personal Funding Tab and upload your documents. Once you upload all your documents on the portal, an application summary including all your documents will be uploaded on the system. Research Grants- Doctoral Programmes in Germany
Who can apply?
Excellently-qualified young academics and scientists who have completed a Master’s degree or Diplom, or in exceptional cases a Bachelor’s degree at the latest by the time they begin their grant-supported research.
What can be funded?
Doctoral programmes at a state or state-recognised institution of higher education or a non-university research institute in Germany: individual projects under the supervision of a university teacher or academic adviser or participation in a structured doctoral study programme.
Note:
Doctoral theses in the areas of human medicine (Dr. med.), veterinary medicine (Dr. med. vet.) or dentistry (Dr. med. dent.) cannot be supported.
Duration of the funding
Usually a maximum of three years, in exceptional cases up to four years; the length of the grant is decided by a selection committee and depends on the project in question and the applicant’s work schedule.
Grants are initially awarded for a maximum of one year. Extensions depend on whether the selection committee considers the previous award period to have been successfully completed.
For doctoral projects in Germany that require several years of research, research phases outside Germany can be supported if these are critical for the successful completion of the doctoral degree. Planned stays must be specified in the application in the work and time schedule and should not exceed a quarter of the anticipated total funding period.
What requirements must be met?
- Applicants need to prove 18 years of higher education (M Phil / M.Sc. Hons/ MS) above average.
- Applicants registered for “M Phil /M.Sc. leading to PhD Programme” Need to finish the 2 years coursework.
- As a rule, applicants should not have graduated any longer than six years before the application deadline. If you are already working on a doctoral degree, you should not have started your degree any longer than three years previously.
- Applicants who have been resident in Germany for longer than 15 months at the application deadline cannot be considered.
- Applicants need to present a TOEFL score (minimum 550) / or IELTS test (minimum Band 6.5.), not older than 2 years
