Scholarship Overview
The Swedish Institute Study Scholarships target highly-qualified students and are awarded for studies in Sweden starting in an autumn semester. The scholarships are intended for full-time master’s level studies in Sweden and cover both living costs and tuition fees.

What does the scholarship cover?

• The scholarship covers both tuition fees (paid directly to the Swedish university/university college by the Swedish Institute) and living expenses to the amount of SEK 9,000 per month.
• There are no additional grants for family members.
• The scholarship period cannot be altered or extended beyond the study programme period, nor can the scholarship be transferred to a study programme other than the awarded one.

How many scholarships are given?

• An estimated 300 scholarships will be available.

Which countries are targeted?
The program is open to candidates from two different categories of countries. Please note that if your country is included under Category 1 – you can only apply within that category.
Category 1:
If your country is listed here you can only apply within this category.
Citizens of the following countries can apply for the scholarship within this category:

• Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Ethiopia, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mozambique, Myanmar (Burma), Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Category 2:

• Brazil, China, Colombia, Egypt, India, Indonesia, South Africa and Syria.
• Up to 25 scholarships within Category 2 will be allocated for applicants from South Africa (10) and Syria (15), for which there are separate initiatives. The remaining scholarships will be allocated to the remaining countries within this category.

Category 3:
Candidates with citizenship from countries on the DAC list (SEE BELOW) of ODA recipients can apply to this program.
Priority will be given to candidates from

• Algeria, Botswana, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Namibia, South Africa, Syria, Tunisia, Vietnam, the West Bank & Gaza, and Yemen.

Am I Eligible to Apply?

• Applicants must be from an eligible country and have at least a total of two years of experience from voluntary work, paid or unpaid internship, position of trust and/or full/part time employment.
• Applicants must display outstanding academic qualifications and leadership experience.
• Applicants should show an ambition to make a difference by working with issues which contribute to a just and sustainable development in their country, in a long term perspective.

How to I Apply – Next Steps
STEP # 1 – Apply to Study at a Swedish University

• Please note that the scholarship application is separate from the application to master’s programmes at Swedish universities.
• Make sure to complete your application to the master’s programmes that you wish to apply to before the deadline 1January 15.
• You apply by using the national online application service se.
• Pay your application fee to University Admissions before the fee deadline of February 1st .
• Please make sure to check for any updates at Universityadmissions.se.

STEP # 2 – Apply for Scholarship

• The scholarship application consists of two steps, the first step will be open 1 December – 20 January,
• followed by a detailed second step for successful candidates from the first step, 8–13 February.
• For the second step of the scholarship application you will be required to submit a Motivation letter, a Europass format CV, a passport copy, and two recommendation letters. The documents must be in English. If any mandatory document is not used or completed in English the application is deemed ineligible.
